Impartation Through Honor
A few months ago, I was having lunch with a friend. Actually, this was more than a friend. It was someone quite a bit my senior who has poured much into me over the past decade. I have mentors in different areas of my life but this man has been a wealth of wisdom in the area of finance and investment. He has unselfishly opened up his heart to me in many profound ways and I have a deep respect for him.
As our lunch time came to a close and it came time to pay for the meal, I quickly grabbed both tabs, something that he protested in a mild, humorous sort of way. You have to understand –my friend is light years ahead of me in the area of finance. He could easily pay for 50 meals and not even notice it, but this was important to me. I explained, “I have learned that if you see something in someone’s life that you would like to have, the way to attract it into your own life is to honor them.” He answered back to me, “Thank you Dean, that is very humbling, and you are very wise.” He then prayed a prayer of impartation over me and I have noticed increase in so many areas of life as a result of that meeting.
Oftentimes when I watch someone carrying something remarkable, I see people flock around them to try to get an impartation. People want to be taught by them – thinking they can receive it through knowledge. Others attempt to manipulate themselves into places of friendship for selfish reasons but this rarely works. I also see some try to give verbal flattery, something that honestly makes me feel sick, especially if it is given publicly. In some church and conference circles this has become commonplace, known as “bestowing honor,” but the heart of God is far from it.
In the end, honor comes from our heart. It is best shared individually and privately. It is an action of humility and esteem that comes from the heart of the father. I have learned that honor is not flashy and that sometimes God hides keys to breakthrough in people that might seem to have little to offer us. However, if we look for amazing things in people and honor them, we will attract great impartations of wisdom and life.
Many of the things that we perceive and receive in the new covenant come through honor.
Jesus talked about a prophet having no “honor” in his home town.
John 5:23 The one who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.
Matthew 10:40-42 talks about receiving the “prophets reward.” If you wish to receive it, you will need to receive him. This is about more than listening to someone teach. It is all about honor.
So, next time you see something in someone that you would like to add to your own life, honor them and you will receive that same reward.
Cheers everyone!!
