Timeless
We are not created for a linear life. We are created eternal. Our giftings and callings are eternal. Our destiny is eternal.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
The above verse is set in the context of time. The chapter starts with a list of a number of things having set, or designated times – a time to live, a time to die, a time to sow, a time to reap – etc. The writer adds that God has made everything beautiful in its time but then explains that we also have a timeless aspect to our make-up. God has set eternity in our human heart. Our body might exist in the realm of time, but our heart exists in eternal realms. We are unique as a creation in that we coexist in both places at once. We are a multi-dimensional being!
Most of us are aware of the time realm only. We do not understand that we were also meant to interact with eternity. Time has no hold on an eternal heart. It also has no hold on a being who lives from eternity to earth. Most of us live the other way around – living on earth as if it was the only realm available for experience, waiting for the day when we are ushered into eternity at death. This type of focus elevates death to the place of being our savior.
However; the opposite is supposed to be true. Jesus lived from eternity to this earth. Eternity was his first home. Earth was only one place where his eternal being found influence and expression while he was here. He constantly proclaimed the good news that the kingdom of heaven (eternal realm) was at hand. It was in his power to release the reality of the eternal realm here on earth.
We are meant to do the same, live from eternal places towards earth. Heaven is our “now” home. We have already died and our lives are now hidden in Christ. We are meant to engage with eternity and visit heaven!! I, for one, am so glad we don’t have to wait – we can go there NOW!
So, let’s go UP!!
